The Role of Technology in Mathematics

Abstract

Technology helps make mathematics richer and more experimental. In this lecture we look at the following four issues in the use of technology related to mathematics education. (1) When should we and when should we not use technology? (2) How should application software be taught? (3) What application software should we choose and use? (4) How do we handle the problems we encounter when we apply technology to mathematics teaching? Illustrations will be taken from the Singapore experience.
