Statistical Teaching with Global Perspective: Aftermath of World Trade Center Attack

Abstract

The September 11, 2001 changed the world we live forever. Anti-immigrant, especially ant-Muslim sentiments, has been common since World Trade Center attack. As a result of this problem, I wanted my student to know that we are living in a world in which individuals from other countries, cultures, and of different religions and background are of significance to our daily lives and more importantly, we need to know about them as well as their perspectives at least as much as they know about ours. You may be wondering how is this thought integrated into a mathematics course? Very easily, thanks to Statistics. The following presentation will focus on how I communicate statistical concepts (with a global perspective) using real data and technology at a career university.
