The Knowing Conceptions of Probability for Concrete Datasets

Abstract

This article shows that there are 5 probable types of students¡¦ knowing conceptions of probability according to the study of the fundamental formal probability knowledge and the analysis of the clinic interview to two elementary school pupils. These 5 patterns of knowing conception are the conceptions of an element as a unit, of an event as a unit, of an event as a composite unit, of holistic reunitization within a whole, and of holistic norming within and between wholes. In addition, this paper also reveals that holistic reunitization and holistic norming are the crucial conceptions of knowing about the probability for concrete datasets. These points are more interesting than before.
